Satellites - free taster days April & May 2015

Inspiring creative and performing arts workshops for learning disabled people

Satellites is for people aged 18 years and over who are learning disabled and
• passionate about the arts
• want to join in an exciting creative journey
• learn creative skills
• and make new friends.
It all happens at Headway ArtSpace in Blyth, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week from 10am to 3pm.

Free taster days

Taster days are the perfect opportunity to find out all about our Satellites workshops and whether they're something you'd enjoy coming along to regularly.
The next free taster days are:

Tuesday 21st April 2015 - creative arts
Monday 18th May 2015 - dance
Wednesday 20th May 2015 - drama

Satellites: inspiring creative and performing arts workshops for learning disabled people

We are offering Satellites taster week free of charge from Monday 26th to Thursday 29th January 2015 to give people the opportunity to experience just how beneficial our programme of work can be.

At Headway Arts we are proud of our reputation for offering high quality participatory workshops which offer meaningful artistic experiences for all those involved.
Our experienced arts practitioners are committed to inclusive ways of working and are trained in the Headway Arts co-creative methodology—our award winning person centred approach.

We are specialists at including people. We nurture a team approach, positive relationships, interactions and good communication, valuing the cultural contribution of everyone involved.
Aside from developing artistic skill there are numerous benefits to taking part in our Satellites workshops, supporting both mental and physical wellbeing:
reduce stress & anxiety levels;
develop social skills & friendships; self-awareness; imagination, self-expression & creativity; teamwork; verbal & non-verbal communication skills;
improve fitness, strength, flexibility, balance & coordination; positivity; confidence & self-esteem; concentration & motivation.

A Satellites day runs approximately as follows:
9.45am people begin to arrive
10.00am day begins with warm-up/introductions
10.45am break time
11.00am workshop begins
12.30pm lunch break
1.30pm workshop resumes
2.50pm workshop ends
3.00pm day ends

Random Circus Skills



The fabulous Bell & Bullock will be joining us at Random to host an hour of circus skills, including stilt walking, plate spinning and unicycling!

Circus Skills at Random will be running on:
Wednesday 7th January 4pm – 5pm
Wednesday 14th January 4pm – 5pm
Wednesday 21st January 4pm – 5pm
Wednesday 28th January 4pm – 5pm
Wednesday 4th February 4pm - 5pm
Wednesday 11th February 4pm - 5pm 

Random is open to anyone aged 9 to 18 and runs on Wednesdays during term-time, 4pm till 5pm.

Amazing Sounds at Headway ArtSpace


London-based vocal trio Voice performed at Headway ArtSpace last Wednesday, and what a treat it was! You can see a little clip of the concert below, and you can see & hear more from Voice on their website.

Voice visit Blyth

Voice, the outstanding female a capella trio are visiting Blyth as part of their Patterns of Love tour.

  On Wednesday 3rd December at 7.30pm, Voice, the engaging female vocal trio, will present Patterns of Love at Headway ArtSpace, Blyth.

The concert, consisting of two 40 minute halves, will explore the beauty, heartache, and humour of love. The trio’s performance takes in early to contemporary, with music from medieval France, Shakespearean song, 16th Century catches, and folksong arrangements from the British Isles.

In addition to the concert, Voice will share their love for unaccompanied ensemble singing through an interactive workshop, open to singers of all ages and abilities. The workshop is an opportunity to learn and enjoy songs from different countries, cultures and eras.

Concert: Wednesday 3rd December, 7.30pm (2 x 40 minutes plus interval), £5.00
Workshop: Wednesday 3rd December 3pm – 4.30pm, £3.50
A combined workshop & concert ticket can be purchased for £6.00

The trio gratefully acknowledges support from Arts Council England for the tour and from public supporters who generously donated to enable Voice to commission an additional new piece by Marcus Davidson. Voice is working with ArtReach as associate producers of the tour.

Coming Soon: The Big Draw 2014

Anyone can get involved in a giant draw-on-the-floor at Keel Row Shopping Centre in Blyth.

Come along and draw webs, patterns & labyrinths and re-create the local environment with a Halloween theme alongside our Creative Director Alison Walton-Robson.
