Art & A Sense of Self

...was the title of our workshop in Bologna, Italy last weekend. Headway Arts Creative Director, Alison Walton-Robson contributed a seminar 'Art & Soul' and the workshop to the Congress of APsiDa - Associazione Italiana di Psicologia della Danza (Italian Association of Dance & Psycology). Alison said:
"Art is a potent catalyst for self discovery & personal growth, particularly when co-creating as a group and particularly for those people who may struggle to communicate in ‘usual’ ways. I was incredibly delighted to represent the U.K. as a guest of the Commune of Bologna and Professor Giulio Casini, President of APsiDa. It was a great opportunity to disseminate our model of working co-creatively to make art, as developed here at Headway Arts over the last 17 years. Also a chance to see the amazing work which is happening there. I very much hope to be able to continue to exchange practice with our fantastic Italian partners."

Art is an effective tool for personal development, motivation and individual expression. Headway Arts' work has been internationally recognised as being a great example of this.

Headway Arts was awarded Leading Visionary of the Future in Europe in the European Year of Creativity & Innovation 2009 & continues to work with 10 European States through partner organisations across Europe; training artists in their methods and learning from other practitioners overseas.

Headway Arts has just successfully completed a feasibility study to develop a unique new arts resource for Northumberland, thanks to support from ACE & Northumberland County Council. Though it is tough times - we here in Blyth think that is when the tough get going... so we continue our plans to create a purpose built studio workshop. Headway HQ will act as a home for our excellent professional company, provide a fully accessible new home for Seven Stars - Northumberland’s Learning Disabled Theatre Co. and Random Headway’s Young People’s Theatre Co. as well as a base from which to further develop our international multi award winning work with the arts in social inclusion.

Bologna, Italy Conference

We have had a great opportunity for disseminating our CoCreART project when Alison Walton-Robson spoke at a conference in Bologna on April 2nd 2011.

The conference has developed from the idea put forward in our original proposal and will explore the idea of CoCreation and the process of working together towards a common goal, looking more specifically at how this relates to the psyche and how it is used in a therapeutic setting.

The conference has been organised by Guilio Casini who applied to be a partner in the CoCreART project but unfortuantely did not receive the funding to join us. As his organisation specialises in the psychology of dance this will obviously be a focus of the conference, but it will be a good opportunity for Allie to disseminate our work and hear about other work that is happening in this field.
